What to Expect During Your First Visit
Understanding your first steps with Better Days Mental Health.
For some, scheduling a first appointment with a new therapist can bring up a variety of emotions… excitement, hope, trepidation…anxiety. Our goal at Better Days Mental Health is to help you feel comfortable the moment you set foot in our clinics (or connect with your therapist via Telehealth). Our offices are designed for comfort, and our therapists are trained to help put you at ease from the start.
We'll ask that you review and sign some documents for us prior to your first session. This is best done electronically using an app called MYIO (we'll send a link to get this up and running to your phone or email). We won't ask you to go into detail about your history or current concerns in these forms—that's what the first appointment is for after all!
We will ask for a copy of your insurance card and, for those on private insurance or who are self-pay, a credit or debit card to keep on file. When you meet with your therapist for the first session, they'll check in with you to see what questions you have about our policies, make sure that you understand the possible limits to confidentiality, and give you an overview of themselves and the services they can offer you or your family member. They'll also be sure to touch base about next steps, including scheduling further appointments if you're ready to do so, before the end of the first meeting.
At Better Days Mental Health, we value and promote a collaborative approach with every client. This means we will work with you to help establish goals together, and to guide you toward reaching these goals with expertise and compassion.

We accept payment through most major credit cards as well as HSA’s or FSA’s. We also work with most major insurance companies, which can provide full or partial coverage of your therapy appointments. Be sure to confirm your benefits with your insurance company prior to your first session.
We have a cancellation policy and require 24-hour advance notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. If you miss an appointment without giving proper notice, you may be charged a cancellation fee. If you cancel your appointment within 24 hours of the scheduled appointment time, you will be subject to an $100 late cancellation fee. If you fail to provide us notice and miss your scheduled appointment, you will be subject to a $125 no-show cancellation fee. It’s important to review and understand our cancellation policy to be aware of any potential fees.
The cost of therapy services will vary depending on your insurance or self-pay status. Please contact your insurance company to learn more about the mental health benefits available to you. If you are uninsured, a sliding scale fee is available to those who qualify based on income level.
