Denise Hagerla

Denise is a Licensed Independent Social Worker with over 20 years of experience as a clinician. They spent the early part of their career living in Chicago and working in inpatient hospital settings, community mental health, and as a clinical supervisor at a training program for multi-disciplinary counseling students. Since moving to Iowa over a decade ago, Denise has focused their practice towards working with anyone dealing with a history of complex trauma as well as those living with chronic health conditions. They also have extensive experience working with LGBTQIA+ adults, families, and couples. Denise practices from an attachment and relationally focused theoretical framework that utilizes multi-modal intervention strategies that work best for each person to facilitate healing, insight, and growth. Through humor, connection, and a shared plan of action, it is their intention to help you create your own path to achieve the goals you bring to your therapy journey.  

In their free time you can find Denise hanging out with their partner and senior pup as well as enjoying reading, puzzling, and any opportunity to be outside in nature.
